This review is the second edition of a study of the carbon dioxide market in the Russian Federation and the world.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the Russian carbon dioxide market.

The object of study is carbon dioxide (gaseous, liquid, solid - “dry” ice).

The work presented is a desk research. Data from the statistical committees of the EAEU countries (including Rosstat, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan) were used as sources of information; UN international databases (UNdata), World Bank, Eurostat; international and European trade data (UN Comtrade, Trade Map); Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (until 2022); Unified information system in the field of procurement; railway transport statistics; VLSI databases; foreign specialized companies; annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers; industry and regional press, conference materials, Internet sites of manufacturing enterprises and consumers of the products under study; scientific and technical literature (elibrary, etc.), FIPS patent database; Infomine database, etc.

Chronological scope of the study: 2015-2022; forecast – 2023-2035

Geography of the study: Russian Federation – comprehensive detailed analysis of the market, countries of the world – brief description of the market.

Distinctive features of this study are:

- availability of a brief description of the global carbon dioxide market;

- data on the volume of emissions and capture of carbon dioxide by industrial enterprises around the world in general and in Russia in particular;

- volumes of in-plant use of captured carbon dioxide by enterprises generating the main volumes of flue gas emissions into the atmosphere;

- volumes of production and sales of commercial carbon dioxide (gaseous, liquid and “dry” ice);

- analysis of market development prospects in the light of the course towards global decarbonization of the economy (world and Russian).

The review consists of 7 chapters, contains 103 pages, including 34 tables, 31 figures and appendices.

The first chapter presents a brief description of the current state of the global carbon dioxide market and the main aspects of the process of global transformation of the world economy - the “Energy Transition”, associated primarily with decarbonization and low-carbon development.

The second chapter contains characteristics of the main industries that produce carbon dioxide in the form of smoke emissions into the atmosphere during the production of basic products. Descriptions are also given of the main methods for capturing carbon dioxide for use in the production of various products.

The third chapter of the review is devoted to the analysis of carbon dioxide production in Russia in 2015-2022. This chapter provides the requirements of existing regulatory and technical documentation for the quality of carbon dioxide of various brands, volumes of carbon dioxide emissions/recovery, as well as statistics and structure of commercial carbon dioxide production, and describes the main manufacturing enterprises.

The fourth chapter analyzes foreign trade operations with carbon dioxide in the Russian Federation in 2015-2023. Data on the volumes of exports and imports of the products under study are provided, the regional structure of supplies is assessed, and data on the volumes of supplies by exporters and importers of these products are provided.

The fifth chapter provides information on the level of prices for carbon dioxide on the domestic Russian market, and also analyzes data on changes in export-import prices for products in 2015-2023.

In the sixth chapter of the review, the balance of production and consumption of carbon dioxide in Russia is given (including volumes of capture and in-plant consumption), the sectoral structure of consumption of the products under study is assessed, and the characteristics of the main consuming industries are given (current state and development prospects).

The seventh chapter of the review is devoted to the forecast for the development of carbon dioxide production and consumption in Russia for the period up to 2035. The strategy for carbon dioxide capture and decarbonization of industry in the Russian Federation is characterized.

The appendix provides the addresses and contact information of enterprises producing carbon dioxide in the Russian Federation.

Target audience of the study:

- carbon dioxide market participants – producers, consumers, traders;

- potential investors.

The proposed study is intended to serve as a reference guide for marketing services and specialists working in the carbon dioxide market.
