This report is the 3rd edition of a study of the methanol (methyl alcohol) market in Russia and globally.
The objective of the study is to analyze the methanol market in Russia and globally and forecast its development to 2035.
The object of the study is methanol.
This work is a desk study. To analyze the Russian market, data were used from statistical committees of the EAEU countries (including Rosstat, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan); international databases of the UN (UNdata), World Bank, Eurostat; international and European trade data (UN Comtrade, Trade Map); the Federal Customs Service of Russia (up to 2022); the Unified Information System in Procurement; rail transportation statistics; the SBIS database; foreign specialized companies; annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers; industry and regional press, conference materials, and websites of manufacturers and consumers of the products under study. Scientific and technical literature (elibrary, etc.), the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) patent database; the InfoMine database, etc.
The study's chronological scope is 2008 - 9 months of 2025; assessment 2025, forecast 2026-2035.
Research coverage: Russian Federation – comprehensive, detailed market analysis; global – general retrospective market analysis.
Scope: The report consists of 6 parts and contains 124 pages, including 40 figures and 30 tables.
Chapter one provides a brief overview of the global methanol market for the period 2018-2024, as well as its development prospects.
Chapter two of the report characterizes the methanol market in Russia, presents data on manufacturing capacity, feedstock supplies for methanol production, and provides methanol production dynamics from 2008-2025. The current status of the main methanol producers is presented both for Russia as a whole and by manufacturer.
The third chapter of the report is devoted to Russia's methanol exports and imports from 2008 to 2025, broken down by supply route. It also provides a breakdown of methanol exports by major exporting companies.
Chapter 4 provides an overview of methanol prices, including domestic and export prices for key suppliers.
Chapter 5 provides a detailed analysis of methanol consumption in Russia by its main use segments. It presents the balance of methanol production and consumption in Russia and identifies its usage structure. A detailed description of the main application areas (formaldehyde/UFC/resins, MTBE/TAME, gas production and transportation) is provided.
Chapter 6 is devoted to the forecast for methanol production and consumption in Russia through 2035, based on the development of consuming segments and the implementation of new methanol production projects in Russia.
The appendices provide contact information for the main companies producing and consuming methanol in Russia.
Target audience for the study:
- methanol market participants – producers, consumers, and traders;
- potential investors.
This study is intended to serve as a reference guide for professionals working in the methanol market and making management decisions.
