This report is the fourth edition of a study of the lithium and its compounds market globally and in Russia.

Market monitoring has been conducted since 2000.

The objective of the study is to analyze the market for lithium and its compounds—lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide monohydrate, lithium chloride, lithium metal, etc.

The objects of the study are lithium-containing ores and brines, lithium-containing mineral concentrates, lithium compounds, and lithium metal.

This work is a desk study. The following sources were used: data from statistical committees of the EAEU countries (including Rosstat, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan); international databases of the UN (UNdata), World Bank, and Eurostat; international and European trade data (UN Comtrade, Trade Map); the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (until 2022); the Unified Information System in Procurement; rail transportation statistics; SBIS databases; Foreign specialized companies; annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers; industry and regional press, conference materials, websites of companies producing and consuming the products under study; scientific and technical literature (e.g., elibrary), the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) patent database; the InfoMine database, etc.

Research timeframe: 2000-2024; 2025 – estimate; forecast – 2026-2035.

Research geography: global market and the Russian Federation market.

The report consists of 12 parts and contains 206 pages, including 70 tables, 44 figures, and 5 appendices.

The first chapter of the report is devoted to the mineral resource base of lithium, its global reserves, and types of lithium raw materials.

The second chapter of the report examines the quality requirements for commercial lithium products and the main technologies for processing lithium raw materials.

Chapter three of the report examines global lithium mining and processing, as well as lithium production by major countries from 2000 to 2024. It describes the largest lithium raw materials and compound producers. Key global lithium production expansion projects are also discussed.

Chapter four of the report presents data on lithium compound exports by major countries from 2018 to 2025.

Chapter five analyzes global lithium product prices from 2018 to 2025 and provides a forecast to 2030. The cost structure of lithium carbonate production from spodumene ore and brines is also examined.

Chapter six of the report is devoted to global lithium consumption, presenting the supply-demand balance of lithium compounds in carbonate equivalents from 2018 to 2025 and a forecast to 2030. The structure of global lithium compound consumption and its main applications are also discussed.

Chapter seven of the report is devoted to the lithium mineral resource base in Russia, specifically lithium deposit reserves in the Russian Federation, the regional structure and distribution of reserves by type, as well as the characteristics of promising resource targets, including an examination of ongoing lithium deposit development projects.

Chapter eight of the report presents the production of commercial lithium products in Russia and the main manufacturing companies.

Chapter nine of the report analyzes Russia's foreign trade operations with lithium and its compounds from 2000-2025.

Chapter ten of the report is devoted to an overview of export and import prices for lithium products from 2000-2025.

Chapter eleven of the report provides an overview of lithium and its compound consumption in Russia from 2001-2025. The lithium supply-demand balance is calculated and the main uses of lithium and its compounds by industry are discussed.

Chapter 12 of the report is devoted to the forecast for lithium production and consumption in Russia to 2035.

The appendices include a basic flow chart for extracting lithium and bromine from brines; a balance of lithium and its compounds consumption in Russia from 2001 to 2017; comparative characteristics of sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries; and contact information for lithium and its compounds producers and consumers in the Russian Federation.

Target audience:

- lithium product market participants – manufacturers, consumers, and traders;

- potential investors.

This study is intended to serve as a reference guide for marketing departments and decision-makers working in the lithium market.
